Liverpool Breaks Transfer Record, Signs Moises Caicedo for £110m

August 11, 2023, Friday. 08:44

Liverpool have reached an agreement with Brighton to sign midfielder Moises Caicedo for £110m. This is a new record of the championship of England.

Brighton held the auction for the 21-year-old Ecuadorian until last night. Liverpool made the highest bid. The Reds beat Chelsea, who offered £100m for Caicedo, writes The Athletic.

Caicedo and Liverpool have not yet discussed the terms of a personal contract, but this is expected to be a formality. Already today, on Friday, the player of the national team of Ecuador must undergo a medical examination.

Liverpool’s previous record was a £75m move for centre-back Virgil van Dijk. The Reds were in dire need of a defensive midfielder after Fabinho left for Al Ittihad.

Caicedo will be Liverpool’s third newcomer to the midfield. Previously, Jurgen Klopp’s team signed Alexis Mac Allister (also from Brighton) and Dominik Soboslai (RB Leipzig).

Caicedo can make his debut for Liverpool on Sunday, in the first round match of the Premier League with Chelsea.
