Liverpool beat Shrewsbury 4-1, through to fourth round

Liverpool

Liverpool have to work hard to get through the scene Shrewsbury Town in the third round FA Cup 2021/2022. Left behind from the League One team, the Reds finally won 4-1.

In the match held at Anfield on Sunday (9/1/2022) evening WIB, Shrewsbury took the lead through Daniel Udoh’s goal in the 27th minute, before Kaide Gordon and Fabinho’s penalty put Liverpool ahead in the first half.

Liverpool added another goal in the second half through Roberto Firmino and Fabinho’s second goal.

The course of the match Liverpool vs Shrewsbury

Liverpool only fielded Virgil van Dijk, Andrew Robertson, and Fabinho as senior players in the line-up. The crisis of players due to injuries and COVID-19 has forced a number of young players to be fielded.

Kaide Gordon, Max Woltman, and Curtis Jones played in attack. Liverpool appeared aggressive from the start to press the Shrewsbury defense and look for goals as soon as possible.

However, Marko Marosi under the Shrewsbury bar was able to resist and the visitors’ back line played well. In the 20th minute, Marosi parried Kaide Gordon’s kick which led to the right corner of the goal.

Shrewsbury, who was more under pressure, took the lead in the 27th minute with his first attack. From the left side, Nathanael Ogbeta was able to release a crossing that headed in front of goal.

Ibrahima Konate failed to clear the ball and instead let Daniel Udoh in to score it into Caoimhin Kelleher’s goal. Left behind 0-1, Liverpool immediately gasped to find an equalizer as soon as possible.

It took seven minutes for the hosts to equalize the score 1-1 through Kaide Gordon. Conor Bradley from the right worked hard to send in a pull pass which Gordon received with his right foot.

Holding the ball for a moment, Gordon finished with his left foot into the goal of Marosi. That goal made Liverpool even more excited to press Shrewsbury. However, two minutes later Kelleher’s goal was again broken from Ryan Bowman’s header but was disallowed for offside.

Liverpool’s goal would have come close again in injury time had Kelleher not quickly returned to his nest to catch Bowman’s header.

Entered in the second half, Liverpool were still in control and in the 49th minute, Dixon-Bonner had a golden opportunity when he met Robertson’s cross with his right foot in front of goal. Marosi brilliantly brushed it off.

Liverpool could only add another goal in the 78th minute through substitute Roberto Firmino. At the beginning of Bradley’s pull pass that met Ibrahima Konate in front of goal, the ball was given to Firmino.

Behind the goalkeeper and there were three players in control, Firmino immediately kicked the ball with his heel into the net to make the score so 3-1.
