Liverpool asks for more consistent VAR after being held to a draw with Tottenham

Jakarta

Liverpool still angry with the leadership of the referee when held to a draw by Tottenham Hotspur last weekend. The Reds demand improvements to use Video Assistant Referee (VAR) in the Premier League.

In the match that ended 2-2, Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp expressed his dissatisfaction with the leadership of referee Paul Tierney. The reason was Harry Kane’s two-footed tackle on Andrew Robertson which only resulted in a yellow card and Emerson Royal’s foul on Diogo Jota which was not awarded a penalty.

One thing that irritated the Liverpool camp was that the referee did not review the VAR for Kane’s foul on Robertson, as was the case with Diogo Jota. Meanwhile, when Robertson tackled Emerson hard, the referee chose to check VAR, which eventually resulted in a red card for the Scotland defender.

Klopp’s assistant, Pep Lijnders also raised his voice about the misfortune received Liverpool. He suggested that each team of judges appointed to lead the match consistently work with the same VAR officer.

Thus, the decision is expected to be more consistent, because both the referee, the line judge, and the personnel in the room WHERE already understand each other.

“Everyone makes mistakes. If we make mistakes, then Jurgen and I will be punished. If it’s the players who do it, they suffer the consequences. But when the referee makes a mistake, it’s usually the player or the team that gets hit, and that’s clearly not true. ,” said Lijnders, quoted by Sky Sports.

“I still don’t understand why the one who served as WHERE always a different person and not part of the team, because in that split second, the person who helps the referee on the pitch needs to know the referee with all the information he has.”

“They should be in a team, because they are responsible together. If it’s always changing, it won’t be good. It’s the same if Jurgen has a different assistant manager every week,” Lijnders explained about VAR which is considered detrimental Liverpool.
