Liverpool 3-2 West Ham: Merciless Reds also beat West Ham

West Ham couldn’t stop the Reds either. In a more exciting than expected home game, the Reds were even behind in the meantime, but, as is so often the case, ultimately won the game. Sadio Mané once again became the match winner and restored the old 22 point lead!

Jürgen Klopp changed little after the 0-1 loss to Atlético Madrid during the week, Naby Keita set the injured Jordan Henderson as expected. Otherwise, Klopp trusted his regular elf.

Reds with early leadership

Everything was done this Monday evening to take out the frustration after the loss to Atlético at the “Hammers” and the Reds also had a tailor-made start. With the first chance of the game, Gini Wijnaldum scored the 1-0 after a cross from Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Everyone thought that the Reds would easily play that home after this early tour and maybe do a little something for the goal difference. But far from it: West Ham equalized in the 11th minute after a corner kick by Diop. It was the second goal from a corner kick in a row, unusual for otherwise defensive Reds!

West Ham naturally gained confidence from this equalizer and an open game developed. Salah and van Dijk both gave Liverpool good chances before the halftime break.

Exchange of blows in the second half

The start of the second half of the game failed completely and it was only a matter of time before West Ham would hit again. In the 54th minute it was time: Liverpool’s midfield and defense stopped work and Fornais was able to push in from 11 meters.

That was finally the wake-up call for Anfield and the team, from this point on the Reds picked up the pace noticeably. Klopp reacted immediately and brought Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain for Naby Keita, which had an effect! After a wonderful combination, Andy Robertson put down on Mo Salah, whose completely misguided “shot” somehow rolled through the legs of West Ham keeper Fabianski into the goal. Game on!

From then on everyone knew what was coming and in the 81st minute it was time. Joe Gomez tried a long-range shot with a left after a corner, which was deflected and somehow ended up at Alexander-Arnold. This laid nicely across on Sadio Mané, who only had to push the ball over the line in front of the head.

That was the end of the matter, Sadio Mané scored another goal, which was however denied by the VAR for offside.

All in all an unusually sovereign home presentation of the Reds, but in the end it doesn’t matter, because what counts are the points! The incredible series continues: With the 18th PL win in a row the record of Man City was set, the 21st home win in a row is also a record. The record for Arsenal’s longest unbeaten streak has also come closer. Running!
