Liverpool appeared in three different finals in the 2021/2022 season. Jurgen Klopp’s men did not score at all in the three finals they played.
The English League Cup Final or Carabao Cup is Liverpool’s first final this season. The Reds against Chelsea in the final at Wembley Stadium in February.
The match ended in a 0-0 draw until normal time until extra time. Liverpool ultimately won on penalties with a score of 11-10.
Liverpool reunited with Chelsea, this time in the FA Cup final on 14 May. The duel of the two teams again ended with the score of glasses until extra time.
The match was again decided by penalty shootout. Liverpool won over Chelsea in a high-fives shootout with a score of 6-5.
The Champions League final then became Liverpool’s last chance to win a trophy this season. However, the hope of Mohamed Salah et al. to close the season with a trophy, they had to die after they were defeated by Real Madrid 0-1 at the Stade de France, Sunday (29/5/2022) early morning WIB.
In that match, Liverpool appeared more dominant by releasing 24 attempts, nine of which led to the goal. However, Thibaut Courtois performed brilliantly in goal in Madrid by making nine saves and was named Man of The Match.
Is there something wrong with Liverpool’s front line?
Liverpool manager, Juergen Klopp, admitted Courtois toughness. However, Klopp also highlighted Liverpool’s late finish.
“When the goalkeeper is the best player, then something goes wrong in the opposing team. Courtois made three extraordinary saves. We could have been better at making passes and crossings in the final third of the field,” said Juergen Klopp.
