LIVE | Zuyderland Medical Center closes two operating rooms and cancels 50 operations | Inland

The Zuyderland Medical Center has closed two of the nineteen operating theaters. Fifty planned operations have been canceled in connection with this. According to the hospital with branches in Heerlen and Geleen, this is due to the high level of absenteeism among the staff.

The hospital says it is experiencing a lot of nuisance from the corona virus, and from flu and colds among the medical staff. The operating rooms will close until next Friday. Emergency and oncology operations will continue.

Zuyderland had hoped that regular care could also be maintained despite corona. But that is not possible due to the many sick reports. “We realize that it is really annoying for patients that we have to cancel a number of operations in the short term, but by temporarily closing two ORs, we hope to keep the impact as small as possible,” says chairman of the board David Jongen. Operations that are canceled now will be made up later.
