Live – War in Ukraine:

Moscow blames ‘destructive actions’ of the West on rising grain prices

Russia argued on Monday that the rise in grain prices, raising fears of a global food crisis, was the result of “destructive” actions by the West, not Moscow’s blocking of exports from Ukraine.

“Regarding the possibility of a famine, more and more experts lean towards a pessimistic scenario (…) It is the fault of the Western regimes, which act as provocateurs and destroyers”, declared the door- word of Russian diplomacy, Maria Zakharova, on Telegram. According to Maria Zakharova, the West made “systematic mistakes” in planning its agricultural policy and caused global inflation with “short-sighted” financial and monetary mechanisms created during the pandemic.

According to her, the rise in prices is also the result of an energy transition policy “poorly thought out” by the countries of Europe and North America, “in particular the forced introduction of biofuels”. Finally, Ms Zakharova pointed to the Western “illegal restrictions”, taken after the Kremlin offensive in Ukraine and which disrupted Russian logistics and financial circuits, particularly for the export of cereals.
