After a two-year absence due to Covid, Formula 1 is making its big comeback to Canada for the ninth round of the season. On the other side of the Atlantic, the Red Bulls will try to win a fifth victory in a row (four for Max Verstappen, including the last one in Azerbaijan, and one for Sergio Perez at Monaco).
On the Gilles Villeneuve circuit, their biggest opponents will remain the Ferraris of Leclerc and Sainz. Despite the abandonment of their two drivers on the Azeri circuit last week, the Scuderia hopes to finally concretize the good results recorded during qualifying. The horse stable has taken the lead on the starting grid six times since the start of the season. Charles Leclerc remains on four consecutive poles but has not lifted its arms on a podium since the beginning of March (Australia). Worse: he received a penalty following the installation ofa new power unit. It will start at the bottom of the grid.
In view of their latest results, the Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton et George Russell will mostly try to keep up.
Before this weekend in Montreal, in the general classification of the drivers, Verstappen leads with 150 points. The Dutch world champion is 21 points ahead of his teammate Perez (129) and 34 out Leclerc (116).
