LIVE USR leadership rejects Dacian Cioloș’s proposals to vote / USR president announces at 18.00 whether to resign or not

Time 14.18: USR President Dacian Cioloș will hold a press conference, at 18:00, at the party headquarters, according to a party announcement

Time 14.06: At the end of the vote, Dacian Cioloș told his party colleagues that he will announce today what decision he will take, according to G4Media sources

Time 13.59: The National Bureau of USR rejected, with the score 14-11, the project of reforms and changes proposed by Dacian Cioloș, according to G4Media sources. We remind you that Cioloș announced last Thursday that he will resign if the National Bureau rejects his proposals. The National Bureau consists of 25 members, of which 14 are part of the management of the former USR, and 11 – of the management of the former PLUS

Time 13.15: The USR meeting is coming to an end, when the vote for the presidential program proposed by Dacian Cioloș is scheduled. USR chief announced last Thursday that if the National Bureau rejects his program by a vote, he will resign

Time 13.11: Drula announced at the USR meeting that he will not vote for the program proposed by Dacian Ciolos, according to G4Media sources. He described the USR president’s proposal as “a lack of confidence in democracy.”

Time 11.05: Dacian Cioloș announced that he accepts some of the amendments made by the members of the National Bureau to his project, but he rejects the main substantive amendments.

The three major changes requested by Dacian Cioloș and rejected by the majority in the National Bureau:

– An external commission to make proposals for policies and ministers for the shadow government. The Barna team claims that it is non-statutory
– Stop exclusions due to a crime of opinion. The team from the old USR shows that there is no such phenomenon, especially the exclusion of members who did not respect the status
– change of USR general secretary, close to Dan Barna. Dacian Cioloș wants to replace him, although the party’s statute states that he is appointed by a two-thirds majority of the members of the National Bureau

Initial article: The USR National Bureau, controlled by the pro-Dan Barna faction, meets on Monday at 10 a.m., according to G4Media. At the meeting, the vote requested by Dacian Cioloș, the president of the party, for his program of reforms and profound changes of the power architecture is expected.

Cioloș presented his program last Thursday and, according to the record of the meeting, threatened to resign from the party leadership if the program is not voted.

The program introduces several changes in driving style that would lead to increased control for Dacian Ciolos.

“It simply came to our notice then. Yes, on Monday, if this program is not voted, you can say , that it does not write in the statute and I cannot force you, because if we do not make a quorum, we do not have a BPN meeting. Or if we have a quorum and you don’t want to vote, I can’t force it. Likewise, if you vote against. It’s just that then I assume the consequences and submit my resignation and another president is needed… “, Cioloș declared, according to the records from the meeting.

Context. Cioloș’s radical gesture comes amid tensions between him and the National Bureau, which is controlled by former USR leaders. There was constant friction between the two camps, USR and PLUS. According to G4Media sources, Cioloș accuses the former USR members of blocking his initiatives, while they blame him for his lack of initiative.

Among the reforms demanded by Dacian Cioloș are: changing the party’s status, replacing the current general secretary (who is part of the Barna team), stopping the expulsions from the party due to the crime of opinion, preparing a shadow government, transparency of National Bureau meetings.

Cioloș also proposes the start of an extraordinary congress and the modification of the state so that the voting on lists for the different collegiate bodies is proportional.

In addition, he calls for the doubling of the National Bureau (now dominated by ex-USR members) with members of the civil society business environment, which would dilute the power of the National Bureau.
