LIVE | US started banning foreign students Abroad

Authorities in the United States have started banning some foreign students. The government has decided that they will no longer be welcome in the US if they only receive online lessons from their educational institutions.

Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have gone to court to get the new rules off the table. They are supported in this by many other educational institutions, who say that the government already bans students.

For example, a South Korean student at DePaul University was allegedly arrested at San Francisco airport. The Immigration Service would not answer questions about banning foreigners who are studying in the US.

More than a million foreigners study in the United States, with an increasing number of educational institutions deciding to provide classes over the Internet because of the corona crisis. Many schools badly need the tuition fees of foreign students.

A group of seventeen states and the District of Columbia area have also gone to court to object to the new rules. They describe it as “cruel, abrupt and illegal.”

Going abroad or not on holiday? The answer is simple, says travel reporter Paul Eldering in the podcast corona-update.
