The results of the Turkish presidential elections 2023 | Live update

The electoral process ends in Turkey to choose a president and representatives in parliament, after the polls close their doors to voters at five in the evening today.

Several states witnessed a remarkable turnout in the polls, such as Izmir, which is the center of gravity of the “Republican People’s Party” and Ankara, which carries political symbolism in light of the republic’s centenary.

The number of those eligible to vote reached about 64,113,941 voters, and the number of ballot boxes reached 191,884 across the country, and 5,040 outside.

The results are scheduled to be officially announced within a few hours, but their announcement may be delayed in the event that none of the candidates is able to obtain more than 50 percent of the vote (50 + 1), as the Turks will have to go through a second round that will take place after two weeks, i.e. in May 28 this year.

In the general elections, 24 political parties and 151 independent candidates competed, while President Recep Tayyip Erdogan competed in the presidential race against opposition candidate Kemal Kilicdaroglu, in addition to Sinan Ogan for the “ATA” coalition.
