LIVE Ukraine 12-12. Andy Peelman: “If I didn’t have my family and job here, I’d already be gone”

09:17:03 – Andy Peelman on Ukraine: “The least we can do is what we are doing now”

Tonight you can call Andy Peelman during the live show. This morning on the radio at Peter Van de Veire and Dorothee Dauwe, he says that he thinks the current situation is very double. “We all say: That is bad and that is and that is punishment, but for the rest we are on the sidelines. I think a lot of people have something like that. Nothing happens outside of western sanctions. I understand that, if we had to intervene militarily, we would also have a major problem. So the least we can do is what we’re doing right now.”

“If I didn’t have my wife and kids and job here, I’d already be gone”

Would he ever consider taking up arms himself when things get out of hand here? “If I didn’t have my wife, kids and job, I’d already be gone. I have also been in Georgia for Andy on patrol† Those Russians move the barbed wire into people’s yards every day. We don’t know how happy we are here.”

Morning – “Putin is a psychopath”

This morning the mayor of Antwerp Bart De Wever (N-VA) already spoke. †Putin is a psychopath“, he said. “We will have to show solidarity for a long time to come.”

The city of Antwerp also hosts many Ukrainian families who fled to our country. A large reception center has been set up in Deurne, where Bart De Wever lives. “The people I saw there were all in shock. For example, I saw a mother alone with five children, who now have to sleep on camp beds in a residential care center. That is heartbreaking.”

9:25:42 – Mathias Rogtus from Willebroek goes to Poland by bike to help refugees

Mathias Rogtus from Willebroek left a week ago and would arrive in Kraków within a week. “We have now driven 500 kilometers and the legs are still strong”, he already said. He set off by bicycle to raise money, publicize it and for health. “Sponsorship is going well, a lot of people are committed. Many companies also sponsor.” He will use those donations to buy things for Ukrainian refugees and people who are still in Ukraine. Although his ride is not easy, he does not give up. “Technical problems with bicycle every day, but that’s the adventure: solving the problems along the way. 1000 miles to go. The goal is clear, there is nothing that will stop us.”
