The corona virus is spreading again, and especially in and around The Hague, the number of infections has increased rapidly in the last few days. Haaglanden now has more infections than Rotterdam-Rijnmond and rivals Amsterdam-Amstelland.
In the six days from Monday morning to Sunday morning, the number of infections in the Netherlands rose by 4,086, which is considerably more than in the same period a week earlier.
685 positive tests were registered in the Haaglanden region. Of those new corona patients, 439 came from the municipality of The Hague. Furthermore, Delft counted 89 new infections, Zoetermeer 51 and the municipality of Leidschendam-Voorburg 40. The Haaglanden Security Region already announced on Thursday that a striking number of people in cafes and restaurants had become infected. Several establishments are therefore closed.
Amsterdam-Amstelland is the leader with 721 new infections, of which 638 in Amsterdam itself. The number of infections in Rotterdam-Rijnmond rose by 583, including 423 cases in Rotterdam itself. 349 people were tested positive in the province of Utrecht and 212 infections were discovered in Central and West Brabant.
The number of hospital admissions rose by 33 from Monday to Sunday. Six people were admitted to hospital in Amsterdam, four in Rotterdam and three in Utrecht. Nineteen people died. Among them are two Rotterdammers, two residents of Zaanstad and two people from Capelle aan den IJssel.
