Several European countries have reported the largest increase in corona infections since the start of the pandemic. It concerns Russia, the Czech Republic and Germany.
In Russia, with 145 million inhabitants, authorities announced on Thursday that an additional 13,754 corona infections have been registered. Since the start of the pandemic, Russian authorities have already detected 1.3 million corona cases. Only in the US, India and Brazil have more infections come to light.
The much smaller Czech Republic (over 10 million inhabitants) has reported the highest number of infections per 100,000 inhabitants in Europe. There, the number of registered corona infections rose by 9544 to 139,290 on Thursday. Healthcare is increasingly under pressure. The government wants to call in thousands of medical students to help. The army is also going to build an emergency hospital with 500 beds on an event site in Prague.
A record number of infections has also been established in Germany, which has approximately 83 million inhabitants. On Thursday it was 6,638 new corona cases. The numbers of infections detected in Germany are lagging behind those in the much smaller Netherlands. The total number of corona infections in Germany stands at 341,223.
On Wednesday it was announced that Germany wants to lower the limit above which an area is considered a risk area. In a consultation between Chancellor Angela Merkel and state prime ministers, it was agreed that the catering industry in corona fireplaces should close at 11 p.m. In these infections, private parties are also limited to ten people.
