Indonesian U-19 National Team will face Vietnam U-19 in the inaugural match of Group A in AFF U-19 Cup 2022. Check out the live streaming link information at the end of this article.
The U-19 Indonesia vs Vietnam U-19 duel will be held at the Patriot Candrabhaga Stadium, Bekasi, Saturday (1/7/2022) night. Specifically, the kick-off time for this match is 20:30 WIB.
The AFF Cup U-19 event itself is rolling again after being absent from 2019 in Vietnam. In 2022, Indonesia has the opportunity to host the Patriot Candrabhaga Stadium, Bekasi and the Gelora Bung Karno Madya Stadium or Madya Stadium, Jakarta. A total of 11 teams divided into two groups will take part in this event from 2 to 15 July 2022.
In this 18th edition, the defending champion Australia did not participate. Besides that, AFF U-19 Cup 2022 also without the presence of non-Southeast Asian countries as in the editions of 2005 (Maldives), 2008 (China and South Korea), 2010 (South Korea), 2012 (Iran and Uzbekistan), and 2014 (Japan).
In AFF Cup U-19 2022, Indonesian U-19 National Team known to be in Group A along with Myanmar, Vietnam, Thailand, Brunei Darussalam, and the Philippines. Meanwhile, five other countries namely Malaysia, Laos, Timor-Leste, Cambodia, and Singapore are in Group B. Then, the team that wins the group and the runner-up will qualify for the knockout stages, namely the semifinals, before competing in the third place play- off and final.
If you look at the previous edition in 2019, the Garuda Muda squad managed to qualify for the semifinals after winning Group A by collecting 13 points from five matches which ended with 4 wins and one draw. Unfortunately, the Indonesia U-19 squad at that time stopped in the semifinals after losing 3-4 to Malaysia in extra time. However, Bagus Kahfi Cs managed to win third place after sinking Myanmar’s resistance with a landslide score of five goals without reply.
The U-19 Indonesian National Team held a training camp for the U-19 AFF Cup on 20 June 2022 to 30 June 2022 after previously participating in the Toulon Cup tournament in France from 30 May 2022 to 8 June 2022.
In preparation, the Garuda Muda squad led by Coach Shin Tae-yong held two trial matches against Persija Jakarta at the Madya Stadium, Jakarta on Friday (24/6) which ended in a 0-0 draw and against Bhayangkara FC took place at the Patriot Candrabhaga Stadium. , Bekasi, Monday (28/6) with a final score of 0-1 for the Guardian’s advantage through Youssef Ezzejjari’s single goal in the 81st minute.
Although he has not been able to win in the two test matches, the coach of Indonesia U-19, Shin Tae-yong said he is satisfied with the performance of Garuda Nusantara in the training camp.
“Very happy because the player’s performance is decent,” said Shin Tae-yong, quoted from the official PSSI website.
“It’s only just entered the training camp for a few days, but organizationally it’s getting better. So I’m happy,” concluded the South Korean coach.
Meanwhile, the Vietnam U-19 squad came to Indonesia setting high targets after failing to qualify for the 2019 AFF Cup knockout stages when they hosted them. The team, nicknamed the ‘Golden Star Warriors’, had to settle for finishing third with 7 points from five matches, two points adrift of Malaysia, which was runner-up in Group B with 9 points.
“Vietnam U-19s attended the tournament with the spirit of playing to the best of their ability, determined to win the tournament successfully,” said Vietnam U-19 coach Dinh The Nam, quoted from the official VFF website.
Responding to the inaugural match against Indonesia U-19 which will be attended by spectators, Dinh The Nam is confident that his players can play optimally. However, he is also wary of several Indonesian U-19 players in every line.
“I know the Indonesian audience is very excited and cheering with enthusiasm. In the past, we have also talked a lot about that issue with the players to keep their spirits up. As for players at the same age of 19, I think our players are confident enough to play good game for the audience,” said Dinh The Nam.
“I know Indonesia U-19 prepares very well for the U-19 tournament. Their players are very good,” he added.
The two teams previously last met in the AFF Cup U-19 tournament in 2018. At that time, the Garuda Muda squad won 1-0 from Vietnam through Muhammad Rafli Mursalim’s single goal in the 81st minute.
