LIVE | Six billion euros raised for development of corona vaccine | Inland

At the international donors’ conference to combat the effects of the new corona virus, additional commitments amounting to € 6.15 billion have been made so far on Saturday. Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, announced the interim result on Saturday evening. Of the amount, 4.9 billion comes from the EU.

In addition to the European Commission, the donor conference is also the initiator of the citizen platform Global Citizen. The campaign is a follow-up to a fundraising in May that has already generated nearly 10 billion euros. According to the United Nations, four to five times as much money will be needed to make a corona vaccine available in every corner of the world.

Notable personalities such as singer Shakira, former footballer David Beckham, actress Charlize Theron, singer Miley Cyrus and singer Justin Bieber are involved in the fundraising.

Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Emmanuel Macron and philanthropist Melinda Gates also attended the online conference. A charity concert with music and performances will start on Saturday evening at 8 pm, hosted by the American actor and former professional wrestler Dwayne Douglas Johnson (‘The Rock’). The concert is broadcast by various TV stations and online, including on YouTube.
