Rotterdam catering entrepreneurs can keep their covered winter terrace until April 1. Normally, the terrace season lasts until November 1, but this has been extended to accommodate entrepreneurs in corona time. “The idea is to extend the winter terraces at least until April 1 next year,” said alderman Said Kasmi in the city council on Thursday.

“Together with the entrepreneurs, we are going to look at the options for roofing, shelter and heating.” The heating in particular must be as sustainable as possible. Because catering entrepreneurs can receive fewer customers and miss out on turnover due to the 1.5 meter measure, they have been allowed to expand their terrace in Rotterdam since 1 June with decks in, for example, parking spaces in front of their café or restaurant. Mayor of Rotterdam Ahmed Aboutaleb said earlier that not every terrace as a police officer is checked to ensure that sufficient distance is kept.
