In the spring phase of the epidemic, the government decided on March 14 to close deals with exceptions, which it gradually supplemented during March. The ban did not apply, for example, to grocery stores, pharmacies, drugstores, computer shops, small pets and pet supplies, newspapers and magazines, gardening, florists or the sale of medical devices.
In the spring, shops and establishments subsequently opened in several stages from April to June. At first, craftsmen, farmers’ markets and used cars were opened, and gradually, after a certain interval, other shops or events began to be added.
Until now, the obligation to cover the nose and mouth has applied in shops and shopping centers, as well as in all other indoor spaces.
‘Protecting the lives of our citizens’
Measures against Covid-19 in recent weeks are not working yet, the government has had to proceed with others, said Prime Minister Andrej Babiš. He apologized for making life uncomfortable for people.
“We must protect the lives of our citizens,” Babiš said at the beginning of the press conference. “It simply came to our notice then. That is why we are standing in front of you today and we are ready to answer questions. “
New government anti-coronavirus measures are designed to prevent the collapse and shortage of hospital beds. The lives of the citizens come first, Babiš said.
Free movement of people was restricted even in the spring wave of the epidemic. At that time, the restrictions lasted from mid-March to April 24, people could only move in two and leave their homes only because of the journey to work, the necessary journey to family or close relatives, the way to basic necessities, medical facilities and social services or for voluntary assistance. Authorities also advised people not to travel to their cottages.
In the spring, restrictions on the free movement of persons included a ban on travel abroad, because in many European countries the epidemic situation was worse than in the Czech Republic and the government feared the introduction of the disease into the country. Now the cabinet has not taken a similar step. The number of newly infected in the Czech Republic per 100,000 inhabitants is the highest in the EU.
