This Sunday, 40 million Spaniards have been called to vote at the polls. The general elections on July 23 are one of the most important in the country’s democratic history. These elections have moved millions of people throughout Spain to the polling stations where they have exercised their right to vote between 9:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. It will be your ballots that will decide the future Government and its leader. The main candidates for the presidency are Pedro Sánchez (PSOE), Alberto Núñez-Feijóo (PP), Yolanda Díaz (Sumar) and Santiago Abascal (Vox).
The counting of votes continues at the polling stations. Here you can see the live graph of the results of the general elections in the Region of Murcia:

After a general election, it is necessary to obtain an absolute majority in the Congress of Deputies to carry out the investiture of a president and the formation of a government. This majority is achieved by obtaining the vote of half of the deputies plus one, that is, with a total of 176 representatives of the total of 350 that make up the Chamber.
Less than a week before the elections, few details are escaping about the career and personal life of the candidates for the Presidency of the Government
Once the elections have been held and the seats have been distributed, it may happen that a single party does not obtain the votes necessary for an absolute majority, as occurred in the 2019 elections. In these cases, the parties represented in the Chamber must meet with the objective of reach government agreements. If several of them manage to reach the necessary 176 seats, they will be able to govern through the coalition government formula, as happened during the last legislature.
One month after the elections, without taking into consideration the evolution of the pacts, the Congress of Deputies is formed. In this case, it will be August 23 when the Chamber is established and the members of the table and the president of Congress are appointed. In the following days, the king will receive the candidates at the Zarzuela Palace to appoint the person in charge of forming the Government. At this point two things can happen: that there is an agreement and the Executive agrees, or that, on the contrary, there is not one.
In the event that Congress does not approve an investiture because the necessary 176 deputies are not reached in the vote, a period of two months will be opened to carry out new investiture attempts. Once this period has expired, and if there is no success in the pacts, the Cortes will be dissolved and new elections will be called 54 days later.
