Thanksgiving service has begun at St Paul’s Cathedral

The Thanksgiving service has begun at St Paul’s Cathedral in London. The so-called ‘Great Paul’, the largest church bell in the country, rang for minutes at the beginning of the celebration. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle arrived together and were received with applause from those interested outside the church. The other prominent royals, such as Prince William and Kate Middleton and Princess Anne, are also present.

Striking: Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie also made their appearance, while their father Prince Andrew stayed at home. Andrew is not there due to a corona infection. The thanksgiving would be the only ceremony he was allowed to attend, as he is no longer a working member of the royal family since he became discredited over an abuse case.

Prince Charles and Camilla are also present: they replace the Queen, who announced yesterday that she will not attend the service in person† “The Queen enjoyed the parade very much, but experienced some discomfort. It is therefore with great reluctance that Her Majesty has decided that she will not be present during the service at St Paul’s Cathedral,” it said in a statement. Numerous politicians also attend the service, including Prime Minister Boris Johnson and former Prime Minister David Cameron.

The Queen has already met great-granddaughter Lilibet

Queen Elizabeth has already met her great-granddaughter Lilibet on Thursday. According to the British Daily Mail, the meeting between the 96-year-old queen and nearly 1-year-old Lilibet took place over a private lunch with relatives at Windsor Castle. However, no footage of this encounter was released.

The daughter of Prince Harry and his wife Meghan was born almost a year ago in the United States. The girl is named after her great-grandmother, whose nickname is Lilibet. She will celebrate her first birthday next Saturday. Normally, the Queen would only see her great-granddaughter there for the first time, but according to British media they have already had their first meeting.

Lilibet is currently staying in the UK with her parents and 3-year-old brother Archie for the celebrations. It marks the first time Harry and Meghan have been in the UK together since they stepped down as senior members of the royal family in 2020 and moved to the United States. Earlier it became clear that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be present at the festivities for the anniversary, but above all will remain unobtrusive. They also did not appear on the balcony with the family on Thursday during the Trooping The Color parade.

Queen thanks for first day of anniversary party

Elizabeth has enjoyed the first day of her anniversary celebrations. “Thank you for a wonderful day,” reads her Twitter account. Grandson William and his wife Catherine also thought it was a wonderful day. “It was wonderful to see so many of you today and to see you enjoying this weekend,” they wrote on Twitter.

The Queen was on the throne for exactly seventy years on Thursday and that will be celebrated in the United Kingdom until Sunday. On Thursday, the festivities kicked off at Buckingham Palace with Trooping the Colour. Today there is a thanksgiving service at St Paul’s Catheral. Elizabeth will not be there as she experienced some “discomfort” during the festivities on Thursday.
