The mayors of the 25 security regions that together form the Security Council want to look ahead to the holidays in December on Monday evening. They also discuss the current corona figures and the effects of the measures that have been taken. Wednesday evening additional, stricter rules took effect. As a result, the numbers of infections and hospital admissions should decrease faster than is currently the case.
Whether people can eat out again at Christmas remains uncertain. It is also not entirely clear whether fireworks may be set off at New Year’s Eve. After deliberation last week, the mayors already indicated that they are in favor of a nationwide ban on the sale and lighting of fireworks this year, especially to reduce the pressure on hospitals and emergency services. The House of Representatives, doctors and the police are also open to a ban. The cabinet will soon make a decision.
The Safety Council has been advising The Hague for months about the corona course to be sailed. Mayor Hubert Bruls of Nijmegen will chair the meeting. Traditionally, Minister Ferd Grapperhaus (Justice and Security) joins in.
