LIVE | Number of corona infections increased by 925, highest since April | Inland

The number of corona infections rose by 925 on Sunday. That’s the highest one-day increase since April 19. In the past seven days, more than 4,600 new positive tests have been passed and processed in the corona dashboard.

A large increase earlier this week turned out to be partly due to a technical failure, but this is not the case now, the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) says.

The Haaglanden region has been the biggest source of fire in recent days. 184 new cases were registered there between Saturday morning and Sunday morning. Among these are 115 positive tests in the municipality of The Hague, 24 in Delft and 15 in Zoetermeer.

149 people were tested positive in Amsterdam-Amstelland, including 132 in Amsterdam itself. Rotterdam-Rijnmond recorded 115 new corona cases. Among them there were 78 in Rotterdam.

The number of infections is also increasing in other places. IJsselland (Zwolle and environs), Hollands Midden (Leiden, Gouda and environs) and Gelderland Midden (Arnhem and Ede) recorded their largest increase in a day since mid-April on Sunday.

RIVM will come back on Tuesday with its weekly overview. Last week, the institute reported 3,597 new cases in the seven days before. That was almost the same as the number of positive tests a week earlier. The week before, between 5 and 11 August, 4036 positive tests were registered.

The number of corona patients in hospitals is also on the rise. On Sunday, the hospitals treated 138 people because of the corona virus, 16 more than on Wednesday. There are 33 corona patients in intensive care, two fewer than on Saturday, but the number of patients in nursing wards increased by six to 105.
