LIVE | New Zealand got rid of coronavirus for second time | Inland

New Zealand has managed to quell the corona virus again. There are no more active cases of infection within the population, Health Minister Chris Hipkins reported Wednesday.

“This is a big milestone,” said Hipkins, who in a statement thanked everyone for the “enormous sacrifices” and called on “to remain constantly vigilant”.

The country did report three new cases of Covid-19 on Wednesday, but that was in people entering the country. The last case of infection in New Zealand itself dates back to twelve days ago.

Earlier this year, the country celebrated that it was one hundred days corona-free, but in August there was another outbreak. In early September, the virus claimed a life for the first time in three months. The 186 recent cases have all been ‘extinguished’.

New Zealand has reported a total of 1,505 corona infections and 25 deaths.
