Concerts aren’t just for bats anymore. The brutal impact of the pandemic in the last year and a half has changed the way of relating to live music, that on many occasions it has been moved to the mornings or to double programs that are completed with a second function in the early afternoon. This newspaper has spoken with musicians and promoters and they are clear about it: “This model is here to stay,” they say.
Las Palmas de Gran Canaria has been a good example of this change of habit, forced but successful. The Kanka, Sergio Dalma or the cycles that have been held in the Doramas park have satisfied promoters, scenic spaces and, especially, the public. That in this new normal of leisure they have made concerts compatible with other parallel plans and increasing the plan to the whole family.
Live music is associated with the night. Many of the concerts that were being programmed ended at the early morning border. And that is something that does not happen now. “I really like how this idea is working. People are assuming these proposals as very positive and it is that this type of programming is demanded, with more plans during the day or in the afternoon but at earlier times “, explains Ardiel Zaya, Head of AlGato Producciones that among many other projects was in the organization of the double function of El Kanka in the Alfredo Kraus Auditorium.
The timplista Yone Rodríguez or the promoters Ardiel Zaya and Sergio Alonso insist: «They have come to stay»

In other promoters consulted by this newspaper the sensations are similar. But this circumstance not only occurs among those who organize the shows. It happens with the musicians themselves. This is how Yone Rodríguez expresses it, who will play on June 20 at the show ‘Timples @ 2021’ at the Pérez Galdós together with Benito Cabrera, Domingo Rodríguez, Germán López and Althay Páez in two sessions at 12 noon and 7 pm: «Doing a double is always good. Especially now with the capacity reduced, the fact of doing two concerts on the same day benefits us to have more box office or to be able to go to several places one weekend without having to rule out anything. It’s a great option that I think has come to stay ”, means the Gran Canaria timplist.
For Sergio Alonso, from the Jeito production company, this format of morning concerts that is being imposed out of necessity is a partial novelty. This has worked all my life. I remember a few years ago some sessions also with music professionals in Madrid organized by the newspaper ‘El País’ that were very successful. However, if we have learned anything during this pandemic, it is that people go to what they like, you schedule it at the time you schedule it. If it’s good, they go, ”he explains.
Zaya reappears in the conversation to address the current shock. “Many of these artists that we now program in double session represent a significant investment. Therefore, with reduced capacity it is necessary to perform two functions in the day to be able to amortize it “, he indicates before adding” but even for those of us who work it is much better the earlier it is done. “
And the artist accommodates without problems. Alonso sees a common position between Rodríguez’s words. «That that the one who gives the concert needs the night no longer takes. If the singer can be at the hotel at 9:00 pm, it seems great, “he underlines from his hiring experience.
“As a consumer, I see that it allows you to make a plan to go to see live music and then go to eat with the family and even include the children in the plan,” emphasizes the timplist, highlighting the possibility that this morning model may have an impact on the rest of the commercial fabric of leisure and catering.
