LIVE | Moscow wants to vaccinate 7 million inhabitants | Inland

Moscow plans to vaccinate about 7 million inhabitants against the corona virus. Mayor Sergei Sobjanin said this in a TV interview on Sunday. Earlier in the day, Russia again reported a record number of new infections, more than 29,000. The number of Russians who contracted the feared virus is approaching 2.5 million. The death toll rose by 457 to 43,141.

In the capital, which has more than 12 million inhabitants, the vaccination campaign started on Saturday in 70 clinics. Risk groups, such as educational staff and health care workers, are given priority. “We are expected to vaccinate 6 to 7 million people,” said Sobjanin.

Russia has developed its own vaccine, Sputnik V, and has quickly approved its use. Scientists question this, because the drug has not yet been sufficiently tested for safety and efficacy.
