LIVE: Minister Plaga talks about measures for schools. It is not only about hygiene, but also about help with education Home

Prague On Tuesday night, the first school principals in the Czech Republic received a manual for operation during the coronavirus epidemic. There are two weeks left until the beginning of the school year. ČTK was confirmed by the acceptance of the manual from the Ministry of Education by some principals and the president of the Association of Primary School Principals, Michal Černý. The material sets out both hygiene measures and, for example, guidelines to help children overcome educational gaps due to school closures in the previous school year.

According to Černý, the required hygienic measures are manageable for schools. There are mostly only recommendations in the manual. The Ministry itself leaves the method of implementing the measures to the directors, which was welcomed by the head of the association. However, he is not happy that in schools it will be mandatory to wear veils outside the classroom. The manual also contains, among other things, instructions for the school’s procedure in case any of the pupils have symptoms of coronavirus infection or if the infection has been confirmed.

According to Černý, the commentary on the document when it was created does not only deal with organizational matters. It contains, among other things, the recommendations of the Czech School Inspectorate for teachers on how to approach the start of teaching from September and how to support children who have large gaps in knowledge from the previous school year. According to him, the document also contains information that university students from pedagogical faculties should help schools with tutoring children.

According to an earlier statement by the Minister of Education, Robert Plaga (YES), the manual contains color-coded binding measures, recommendations and an informative part. In addition to hygienic measures, such as frequent ventilation or hand washing, it also includes instructions for organizing distance learning.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, schools were closed for part of the second half of last school year. They received the first coronavirus protection manuals in April and operated according to them after their partial reopening until the end of the school year. Until then, attendance was voluntary and children could learn from home. Primary schools had about 953,000 pupils last year and secondary schools 424,000. They will probably have a similar number in the coming year.
