LIVE | Mayor wants higher corona fines for illegal parties | Abroad

Mayor Marianne Schuurmans of the municipality of Haarlemmermeer is calling for higher fines for organizers of illegal parties. “These parties are anti-social and irresponsible at a time when we are all doing our best to keep healthcare accessible to everyone and to limit further damage to the economy,” said the mayor of Haarlemmermeer.

Schuurmans refers to an illegal Halloween party that was celebrated in the night from Saturday to Sunday at a holiday park near Halfweg. Seventy people present there were fined, the police reported. Schuurmans does not have a good word for the organizers of illegal parties in Corona time. “I think the organizers are criminal and should, as far as I am concerned, be fined,” she says on Twitter.

The police encountered illegal parties throughout the Netherlands this weekend. Dozens of people from all over the Netherlands wanted to visit an illegal party in the night from Saturday to Sunday in the vicinity of the Spoorpad in Weesp. The Gooi en Vechtstreek police managed to prevent this by handing out warnings and fines.

In the village of Prinsenbeek near Breda, the police handed out fines on Sunday morning to more than 25 young people who violated the emergency ordinance with their party in a forest. Three of them could not identify themselves and were arrested.

The police in Zeeland ended illegal parties in Goes, Terneuzen and ‘s-Heer Abtskerke. In a shed on Lorentzstraat in Goes, the police fined nearly thirty partying youngsters between the ages of 18 and 21 years old. In Terneuzen, nine young people between the ages of 15 and 18 received a fine. In ‘s-Heer Abtskerke, nine young people came together in a construction site. They entered into a discussion with the agents about the corona measures. One of them, a 21-year-old resident of Den Bosch, insulted an agent. He has been arrested and is detained at the police station.

In the night from Friday to Saturday, an illegal party was ended by the police in Utrecht.
