In four regions, the number of corona infections has risen so fast that the situation is no longer ‘worrisome’, but has become ‘serious’. That is the highest risk level. This will apply from Saturday in the safety regions of Utrecht, Hollands Midden, Zaanstreek-Waterland and South Holland South. This puts them on the same level as Amsterdam-Amstelland, Rotterdam-Rijnmond and Haaglanden.
The situation in a region becomes serious when more than 150 out of 100,000 inhabitants are tested positive in a week, or when more than 10 percent of the tests performed are positive. “Hard action is necessary to prevent further escalation and return to a manageable situation,” the government explains on the corona dashboard.
In the rest of the country, the situation is ‘worrying’. This already applied to most security regions, but the risk level for IJsselland, North Limburg, South Limburg and Zeeland was increased on Saturday. There, the status previously applied ‘vigilant’, the lowest risk level.
Meanwhile, the corona density in hospitals continues to increase. Hospitals will treat 1190 patients on Saturday because of infection with the corona virus. That is 51 more than on Friday.
The nursing wards are especially busy. There are 955 corona patients there on Saturday, 55 more than on Friday and 370 more than last week on Saturday. The number of corona patients in intensive care has decreased slightly in the past 24 hours, from 239 to 235. That is the first decrease in a week.
