“I have never met a heroine like Tar, she won me over,” the actress told the media as she walked the red carpet in front of the Berlinale Palast, where she was awaited by dozens of photographers and hundreds of fans with posters and autograph cards.

The film “Tar” is part of the special gala evenings of the Berlinale and was presented last night by Cate Blanchett, the director Todd Field and the German actress Nina Hoss.
They were all warmly welcomed by the large audience that came to see them in the cold rainy Berlin night.

Cate Blanchett told the Guardian that when she read the script of the film, she inhaled this text. According to her, one of the most impressive emotions that “Tar” evokes is that it activates the mechanisms of empathy, but at the same time offers no solutions.
“It’s a very nuanced exploration of the corrupting power of institutional power, but it’s also a very human film because at the center you have a person who is in a state of existential crisis.”

A few days ago, Blanchett won a BAFTA award for leading actress for the film “Tar”, and earlier she won a Golden Globe for the third time in the same category. She was also nominated for an Oscar.
The two-time Oscar winner for The Aviator (2005) and Blue Jasmine (2014) described portraying star conductor Lydia Tarr as her most challenging role to date.

“All I can say is that I was completely, completely absorbed by this character,” Blanchett told reporters on the sidelines of the Berlinale.
“Thar absorbed me completely. Apart from the role, it was also because of the issues the film addressed. It was a psychological challenge that I still think about,” the actress added.

Berlinale: The films to watch out for
Blanchett is convinced that if a person works with a character for so long and so intensely, then a part of that character will leave a mark on him forever.
In the film Tarr, she plays the fictional principal conductor Lydia Tarr, the first woman to lead a world-famous Berlin orchestra, at the height of her career. But she abuses the power of her authority and increasingly loses control of her life.

Although the film depicts a philharmonic orchestra, which is fictional, “Tar” was actually filmed in the building of the Berlin Philharmonic, one of Berlin’s architectural treasures, the work of architect Hans Scharun.

Completely destroyed during World War II, the building of the “new” Berlin Philharmonic was built and fully completed in 1963. The building is in a modernist, avant-garde style. It is made in the angular, broken structure, with beveled and rising sharp corners, which contribute to the sound from its center being heard harmoniously everywhere in the hall.

The film “Tar” also comments on the equally important topic of women in classical music and their place in a world still dominated by men, especially when it comes to the profession of conductors.
We can watch “Tar” in Bulgaria very soon at the cinema, as the film is part of the program of 27th Sofia Film Festwhich starts on March 16.
