The number of corona infections reported in France has exceeded one million. The Ministry of Health says an additional 42,032 people were diagnosed with the virus in the past day. This brings the total number of infections registered since the start of the pandemic to 1,041,075.

France, with a population of 67 million, is the seventh country worldwide to have more than a million corona cases. This also includes the United States (8.4 million infections), India (7.8 million), Brazil (5.3 million) and Russia (1.5 million). Spain and Argentina are just above the one million corona mark.

The virus is spreading rapidly in France again in recent weeks. The daily increase of more than 42,000 corona cases is the highest so far. The previous record (41,622 new infections) was only a day old. The country has more than 34,000 deaths. In the Netherlands, this concerns more than 7,000 deaths and 260,000 infections.
