Ukraine again asks for more weapons

An adviser to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Mykhailo Podoliak, is asking his country’s allies to supply more weapons so that Ukraine can continue to defend itself against Russia. “The problem at this stage of the war is that the amount of weapons, drones, grenades and artillery is not evenly distributed. This must be equalized,” Podoliak said in the German newspaper Bild on Saturday.

Not words, but actions, according to Podoliak. “Long-range missiles, drones, grenades, artillery. The number of weapons (delivered) must be large.” According to him, Ukraine has a great need for high-tech weaponry.

The supply of additional weapons and ammunition to Ukraine is the subject of debate in the West. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in particular is urging other European countries to make more efforts for Kiev.

The front in the war against Russia is particularly extensive, says Podoliak in Bild. This means that Ukraine will have to defend itself against Russian troops over a very long distance. “The entire front line is 1,300 kilometers long. The fighting takes place over a distance of 600 to 800 kilometers.”

Despite the difficult weather conditions, the intensity of the fighting does not decrease. Yet Russia has not been able to make significant progress for an entire year, Podoliak says. “It threw masses of soldiers into battle, carried out a covert mobilization and sent a lot of manpower to the front. A large amount of equipment was also collected, but it was completely destroyed.”

According to Podoliak, Russian President Vladimir Putin wants to continue his war “until he conquers all Ukrainian territory, until he is dominant in Europe, until he conquers the other former Soviet territories.”
