In Palm Springs, Rosemary Galore will host a lineup of drag queens starting Sunday on top of the Twist Hotel, at an all-you-can-eat dim sum brunch socially distanced from the adjoining Roly China Fusion restaurant, according to a press release. .

“This is not your drag mother’s drag brunch,” Galore said in a prepared statement. “It will be the hottest show in town, and it’s not even summer yet!”

Roly China Fusion owner Chad Gardner told The Desert Sun that “things are improving tremendously,” which has allowed artists to move outdoors.

The decline in COVID-19 numbers comes as the Coachella Valley enters what is normally its busiest tourist season. While some of the region’s iconic events, such as the Coachella and Stagecoach music festivals, have been canceled, others remain on the program. The outdoor art biennial Desert X begins its third edition on Friday, and Modernism Week will host a combination of virtual and in-person events next month.

While the supply of vaccines in the US appears to be increasing, health experts warn that easing of restrictions could lead to a fourth wave of virus infections this spring. So while live entertainment is making a comeback, it’s likely to look different than in the pre-pandemic times.

In Indio, Fantasy Springs Resort Casino will open its Rock Yard venue on Friday night with a performance by the Boston tribute band Don’t Look Back. Bonfire will take the stage on Saturday.

The casino is owned by the Cabazon Band of Mission Indians, a federally recognized Native American tribe. Native American tribes, as sovereign nations, are not required to follow state-issued COVID-19 mandates.

More and bigger events could be on the way. Riverside County announced this week that outdoor entertainment, including sporting events, may resume with limited viewers on April 1. The number of attendees will depend on the reopening phase of the county you are in.

If Riverside County remains at the strictest purple tier in the state at the time, for example, live events with an audience of 100 or less will be allowed. Reservations will be required and visitors will only be allowed within 120 miles of the venue. Concession or contest sales will not be allowed.

Gardner hopes that Riverside County will make further progress in the reopening process. At the next level, the red level, the indoor dining room can be resumed.
