LIVE | ‘Cough and sore throat more often with new corona variant’ | Inland

People infected with the new British corona variant more often report complaints such as coughing, sore throat and fatigue. They lose their sense of taste or smell less often than people with the old variant. This is reported by the British counterpart of the Central Bureau of Statistics, the ONS.

The statistics office sees no significant differences in the field of symptoms such as headache and shortness of breath. The ONS relies on data from people who tested positive for the coronavirus in England between November 15 and January 16.

The new corona variant surfaced in the United Kingdom at the end of last year. Cases have now also been reported in the Netherlands. The British variant is seen as more contagious, but according to the ONS there are also other differences from the traditional form of the virus. There is still uncertainty as to whether the new variant is also more deadly.
