The corona virus is also spreading faster in Belgium. Almost as many people are infected as at the beginning of August, when Belgium appeared to be entering a ‘second wave’.
After weeks in which the virus was on its way back, the number of infections has increased again in recent days. Now “we even see a small acceleration in this increase,” said Belgian virologist Steven Van Gucht on Friday about the figures of the past week. He points out that many holidaymakers have recently returned from countries affected by the virus and that schools have started again.
The number of hospital admissions has so far not kept pace with the increase in the number of infections. But the number of people ending up in hospital is now rising sharply, figures from the health institute Sciensano show.
