LIVE | Corona shows up on St. Eustatius | Inland

French protest against corona pass is growing ‘Never thought to live in such a time’

05.20 hours Corona infections on Sint Eustatius again for a long time

Two people have been infected with the corona virus on the island of Sint Eustatius, the government of the island confirmed on Saturday. The island with about 3000 inhabitants had not had any infections for more than six months.

One of the people who is now infected is the NOS correspondent Dick Drayer, who lives in Curaçao, who himself announced his infection on Facebook. Various media on the Antillean islands have already reported the infection of Drayer, who was vaccinated twice and tested negative with a PCR test before his departure to St. Eustatius last Wednesday.

In addition, an inhabitant of the island has tested positive, who had recently been abroad. The government reports that the two cases are separate and has started a contact investigation into both infected persons.

At the end of February, St. Eustatius received sufficient Moderna vaccines for the entire population from the Netherlands. According to the government, 1,366 people have now been vaccinated. Since March last year, a total of twenty infections have been registered. No one on the island has died from the virus.

The low vaccination coverage of the population is a cause for concern with the government, which hopes that more people will be vaccinated.

03.35 am Travelers from Belgium and Germany can be checked

Travelers who travel back to the Netherlands from Belgium and Germany can be randomly checked for their corona proof from Sunday. If you do not have corona proof with you during a check, you will be fined 95 euros.

Travelers who drive from Belgium back to the Netherlands have been known for some time that they can be checked from Sunday, because many risk areas are in the south of Europe: Belgium, parts of France, Spain and parts of Portugal are yellow. The Royal Netherlands Marechaussee reported on Thursday that travelers from Germany could also be checked, because the color code from Italy would be changed to yellow. That happened last Friday.

According to a spokesperson, all travel developments in Europe are being monitored and the approach can be adjusted accordingly. The mobile teams freed up for this can easily move around when needed. “We’re driving that way, so to speak.”

At the end of July, it was announced that travelers from 12 years old who come from EU countries with a yellow travel advice must have a corona certificate with them as of 8 August. They must show this to the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee on request. This can be a vaccination certificate, recovery certificate or negative test certificate. People who are fully vaccinated or have recovered from corona can demonstrate this in the CoronaCheck app. Other travelers must be tested in the country where they are staying before their return journey. With a PCR test this is a maximum of 48 hours before departure, with an antigen test this is 24 hours.

People who do not travel with their own means of transport are checked by transport companies.
