The French health authorities reported another record number of new corona infections on Saturday. In 24 hours, 13,498 confirmed infections with the feared virus were added, a few hundred more than Friday.

During the highest peak of the first wave on March 31, 7,578 were recorded. At the time, much less was tested. Current capacity can be further increased, according to the newspaper Le Parisien, now that the use of a saliva test has been approved. It will be used from October, but only for people who show symptoms of disease.

In total, more than 442,000 French have now become infected with corona. The number of patients who died of Covid-19 increased by 26 to 31,274. More and more cities and departments are taking stricter measures in the fight against further spread of the virus. Toulouse, Nice, Bordeaux and Marseille reacted the fastest.

In Indre-et-Loire, the Tours region, dance evenings and student association events are prohibited from Monday. The prefect also banned meetings where people eat and drink standing. Cafés without a terrace or seating inside are closing, restaurants are not allowed to offer packages where several people eat from the same dish or board.
