LIVE | Closing debate party leaders: Wilders and Kaag hard collision | Elections

Our parliamentary reporter Alexander Bakker follows the debate. Follow his live report at the bottom of this post.

“You have been with you for twenty years, Mr Wilders, you have achieved nothing,” sneered Kaag. “You sound like a broken record and put away large groups of Dutch people.” The PVV leader accuses her of wanting to bring everyone in. “You are ruining the climate in the Netherlands by ensuring that everyone can come here. Where do you get it from? ”

Wilders attacked Kaag over the headscarf she wore during a visit to Iran, while women demonstratively took off their cloth. “You dropped them like a brick.” Kaag defended herself by stating that she was there as a minister in the national interest. “You betrayed them,” Wilders countered.

There was also ‘struggle’ on the left. PvdA party leader Ploumen took on SP leader Marijnissen, although the two mainly agreed on raising health care salaries. “Our programs are similar, which is why we are allies,” said Ploumen. It therefore remained vague for the viewer what the differences are between the parties.

CDA leader Hoekstra and GL leader Klaver debated about the climate. GL wants higher taxes for large polluting companies. Hoekstra: „I am very concerned about the plans as you present them. The plans for aviation work out worse at GL than at the CDA. ”

Last attempt

The election campaign will come to a head on Tuesday evening as the parties make one last attempt to attract voters.

Strikingly absent from the meeting for smaller parties at the beginning of the evening was FvD leader Baudet. He was a stone’s throw away campaigning in The Hague, but did not come to the Kamergebouw to talk. Why Baudet stays away from the debate is not known. “We have just heard that he will not make it, and that he has canceled,” said presenter Baijens. “We had many questions for him.”

For example, JA21 party leader Eerdmans could sneer without a reply about his departure from FvD. “Corona is serious business, you cannot deny that as a small flu.”

The polling stations have been open since Monday, but party leaders want to stand out one last time before most of the voting Netherlands goes to a polling station on Wednesday. In this way they hope to convince the last floating voters that their parties are worth a vote in the House of Representatives elections.

Tonight the NOS will broadcast two programs with party leaders. The program starts at 7 pm on NPO1 The mood to see. The party leaders of PvdD, 50Plus, Denk, SGP, FvD, Lijst Henk Krol and JA21 would be guests there, but Thierry Baudet was absent at the last minute. It’s not a debate; the party leaders answer questions from voters.

This is followed by the final debate in this NOS campaign. In the final debate, the party leaders of the eight largest parties face each other one-on-one. For example, PVV leader Wilders takes on VVD party leader Rutte and D66 leader Kaag. Rutte also takes on CDA leader Hoekstra. On the left, a battle is being waged between PvdA party leader Ploumen and SP leader Marijnissen.
