Live cinema transmission of the Strauss opera Ariadne auf Naxos from New York – Munich

It’s an artist’s nightmare: Shortly before the premiere of his equally heroic and tragic opera about Ariadne, who is at risk of suicide due to lovesickness, a young composer learns that his client has requests for changes. His work is to be performed with a commedia dell’ arte around the easy-going Zerbinetta – and at the same time. “Ariadne auf Naxos” is one of the most beautiful operas by Richard Strauss and explores the question of the coexistence of dramatic and comedic elements in art. The libretto was written by the Austrian writer Hugo von Hofmannsthal and the work had its premiere in 1912. Now this opera is coming to the big screen in a New York production by Elijah Moshinksy, as part of the “Met Opera live im Kino” series of events, which he will conduct Marek Janowski. On Saturday, March 12, several cinemas in Munich and the surrounding area will be part of the opera house, the singing will be in German, the performance will last a little over three hours, and there will be an intermission.

Met Opera live in cinemas: Ariadne auf Naxos, Sat., March 12, 7 p.m. Participating cinemas and tickets: www.metimkino.de
