LIVE | ‘British variant’ coronavirus pops up in Friesland | Inland

The ‘British variant’ of the corona virus was first detected in Friesland. The contamination came to light via a random check, the GGD Fryslân reports Friday.

The ‘British variant’, so called because the mutation was first diagnosed in Great Britain, is more contagious than other versions of the coronavirus, but does not appear to be more pathogenic.

The GGD conducts source and contact research on the person to find out whether there is a possible link with the other infections in the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. On Thursday, Minister Hugo de Jonge (Public Health) reported in a letter to the House of Representatives that the British coronavirus variant had been found in at least fifteen people in the Netherlands.

In the Rotterdam region, nine cases have been associated with a primary school. Five cases of the British virus have been found in the Amsterdam region. The Amsterdam UMC hospital reported on its website that it concerns four nurses. The virus was found in the Nijmegen region in a traveler returning from England.
