LIVE | British defense chief: ‘Russia has already lost strategically’ | Abroad

08.11 – British defense chief: ‘Russia has already lost strategically’

Russia has “strategically already lost the war in Ukraine” and “will never take control of the country.” So says the British Army Chief of Staff. “President Putin has used 25 percent of his army’s power to make small territorial gains,” said Admiral Tony Radakin.

“Any claim that this war is a success for Russia makes no sense. Russia is losing. Russia will undoubtedly have some tactical successes in the coming weeks. But soon the Russians will be short of manpower and advanced missiles. Russia has already lost strategically.”

07.55 – Ukraine is determined to organize the next Eurovision Song Contest: ‘We will surprise everyone’

War in your country is, to say the least, a valid argument to let the organization of the Eurovision Song Contest pass you by. But the Ukrainian government is determined. After Kalush Orchestra won the festival last month, the next edition will take place in their country. “I’m sure we will surprise everyone,” said Culture Minister Oleksandr Tkachenko.

In recent weeks, several countries have offered to help with the organization of the festival or even to take it over completely. However, Ukraine does not want to hand over anything and has already put together its own organizing committee. “We recently completed a questionnaire from the European Broadcasting Union (producer of the Song Contest, ed.)”, says Tkashenko.

“We provided detailed answers to questions about security, and suggested several locations. We understand that, given the current circumstances, we face a real challenge. But we don’t shy away from that.”

07.45 – Hundreds of civilians in Severodonetsk factory: ‘No evacuation possible’

568 civilians, including 38 children, are currently trapped in the Azot chemical plant in Severodonetsk, after Russian bombing has blocked the exits of the complex. “There is no way to evacuate them,” Lufansk governor Sergij Haidai warned. The pro-Russian leadership in the region has since announced that it would organize a humanitarian corridor. How and when that would happen was not disclosed.
