15:45 – 737 new corona infections in the region
The RIVM reports 737 new corona infections in our region on Thursday. That’s less than Wednesday’s 866. On Tuesday the counter was still at 569 new infections. The weekly average now stands at 785 infections.
Just like Wednesday, there are 2 new deaths in our region. They come from Hoeksche Waard and Nissewaard. In addition, the RIVM reports 6 new hospital admissions, fewer than the 10 on Wednesday and the 13 on Tuesday.

14:10 – 7 millionth vaccination taken in the Netherlands
Today the 7 millionth vaccination has been put in the Netherlands. This is reported by outgoing minister Hugo de Jonge (healthcare) on Twitter. According to De Jonge, we are increasingly noticing the effect of the vaccinations and therefore there is more room to meet each other.
12:43 – Vaccination is now also possible in Barendrecht
The GGD also started vaccinating against the corona virus in Barendrecht on Thursday. People who have received an invitation from the RIVM can go to sports hall De Bongerd at 6 Dierensteinweg for their injection.

12:00 – More than a quarter of the EU population refuses vaccine
More than a quarter of adults in the European Union will refuse a corona vaccine. This has emerged from research by research agency Eurofound. Tens of thousands of EU citizens in 27 Member States were questioned for the survey.
Willingness to vaccinate is particularly low in Eastern Europe: in Bulgaria 61 percent of those questioned refuse an injection. In the Netherlands this is 30 percent.
In countries where people mainly get their information from social media, people are less willing to take a vaccine. According to the researchers, this is mainly due to the amount of fake news on Facebook and Youtube.
08:25 – De Jonge against corona peppers in yellow vaccination booklet
Outgoing minister De Jonge does not think that the GGDs should record the corona vaccination in the ‘yellow vaccination booklet’. That booklet is proof in which vaccinations can be included, such as against the yellow fever for hepatitis.
According to publisher SDU, the yellow book is seen as international proof and the corona vaccine can easily be added.
Some GGDs are not willing to write down that injection in the booklet and De Jonge is behind it. He denies that the book has an international status. It would also generate too much extra work for the GGD employees
6:33 AM – More side effects when combined with vaccines
Combining the AstraZeneca and Pfizer vaccines may result in people experiencing side effects such as fatigue, headache and muscle pain more often after the second shot. This is evident from interim results of a British study, in which almost five hundred people took part.
The participants received a second vaccine four weeks after the first shot. Fate determined who got Pfizer twice, who got AstraZeneca twice, and who was punctured first with Pfizer and then with AstraZeneca or vice versa.
Participants who received two different vaccines reported more side effects such as fatigue, headache and muscle pain after their second shot than people who received the same vaccine twice. Lead investigator Matthew Snape says no safety concerns have occurred.
6:00 am – Postponed operations possible in another hospital
Patients waiting for surgery, which has been postponed due to the corona crisis, may need to go to another hospital. Outgoing Minister Van Ark says that it is being considered to distribute delayed treatments across the country, as is already happening with corona patients.
In this way, Van Ark wants to prevent one region from already catching up, while the other region still has to catch up on many operations.
