John van ‘t Schip made brief contact with the fans after the match against FC Twente. “It was a week in which everyone was hit hard. Not just us as a staff and group of players, but also all the fans. It was a good moment to thank them extra,” the head coach said in front of ESPN’s camera. “We are all in the same boat and we are all very affected by it.”
Brian Brobbey was allowed to play a half against FC Twente on medical advice. Ultimately, the striker lasted seventy minutes. “In the first half Brian had problems and problems, due to Twente’s play and our own play,” said Van ‘t Schip. “He came into his own more in the second half. We left him for seventy minutes and that was not really the intention. But sometimes you take a risk, this match was extremely important.”
Ajax will be back in action against Excelsior at home in a week and a half. The cup final is scheduled for next Sunday. “Fortunately, we now have a number of days to properly prepare for the next match. Hopefully Jordan Henderson and Steven Berghuis can take a step in their recovery,” Van ‘t Schip concluded.
