LIVE | Belgium expects first vaccines at the end of December | Inland

Belgium expects to have access to the first corona vaccines from the end of December. But the lion’s share will only come in the second and third quarters of 2021, Prime Minister Alexander De Croo said on Sunday in the television program De Zevende Dag.

Belgium has subscribed for four vaccines via the European Union. Just as in the Netherlands and other countries, the vaccination will be done gradually once a vaccine has been approved. The first vaccines go to healthcare workers and vulnerable groups.

“We still have to be cautious for a relatively long period,” the prime minister tempered expectations. According to De Croo, corona figures in Belgium are moving in the right direction, but he reiterated the message that a third wave, a “Christmas wave”, must absolutely be avoided.

Minister of Health Frank Vandenbroucke also warned against this. “A donkey should not hit the same stone twice.” He is confident that the distribution of the vaccines will proceed smoothly under the leadership of a task force. “If it doesn’t work, you can shoot me,” said Vandenbroucke.
