LIVE | Aruba takes measures after rising number of corona infections | Inland

Due to the large increase in the number of corona infections in Aruba, the government announced on Wednesday that it would introduce additional measures from January 7. For example, the curfew set a few days before New Year’s Eve will be extended until the end of January. This means that all shops must close at 10 PM and no one is allowed on the street after 11 PM. In addition, it is prohibited to be in a parking lot or a beach from 19:00. In this way, the government wants to prevent people from meeting in groups.

Aruba had 110 new corona infections on Tuesday, there were 96 on Wednesday. This means that the number of people currently infected with the virus has risen to 488. With the increase, the pressure on the hospital is increasing. The government wants to do everything it can to prevent a third corona wave on the island, after the first waves last year in March and April and in September.

The police have introduced special measures that normally apply during carnival to ensure that people comply with the measures. This means, among other things, an increase in fines. It is also not allowed to come together in groups. In addition, catering establishments are not allowed to organize activities and a maximum of four people applies for boats and yachts. Supermarkets may only allow one member per family.
