Mink farms have again been diagnosed with coronavirus. It concerns a company in Ospel (with 6400 dams) and a company in Vredepeel (with 12,500 dams). The companies will be culled as soon as possible, the Ministry of VWS reports Thursday.

The infections were discovered by the so-called early warning monitoring system. With that, cadavers are tested weekly for the virus.

A total of 22 mink farms in the Netherlands have now been declared infected. All animals in the twenty already known infected farms have been culled.

To prevent further spread, the cabinet has already introduced a national ban on mink transport, a visitor ban in stables and a strict hygiene protocol. At two farms it is plausible that the virus has passed from mink to humans.

A ban on mink farms will come into effect in 2024. The government is now working on a scheme that allows companies to voluntarily stop earlier.
