07.40 – ‘Negative corona test for day out may be mandatory’
The cabinet is considering making a negative corona test or vaccination certificate mandatory for museums, zoos and amusement parks when they reopen later. Sources from the political and leisure sector report this to BNR. A large-scale trial with access tests is currently underway at dozens of attractions throughout the Netherlands.
It is not known on which date the so-called transfer locations will be allowed to open the doors definitively again, but according to insiders, the plan from the government is to make the CoronaCheck app mandatory in the beginning. The trade association for day attractions in the Netherlands, the Club van Elf, is not eager for the system. Walibi Holland also prefers to receive guests without a test obligation.
07.11 – Vaccinatiebonus
All employees of the Wind Creek Aruba company receive a bonus of USD 300 (converted over 250 euros) if they are vaccinated twice against the corona virus. Wind Creek owns Renaissance hotels in Aruba and Curacao, several casinos and Starbucks. A total of 750 employees in Aruba are eligible for the bonus, the news site www.24ora.com reports.
Wind Creek wants to be as prepared as possible for the arrival of American tourists. They seem to be coming to the island in large numbers now that more and more Americans are vaccinated. Every tourist must show a negative PCR test on arrival.
Wind Creek, an American multinational company that owns many hotels, shops and casinos, wants to show that tourists can come to one of their companies in Aruba completely safely.
The action is remarkable. Never before on the Caribbean islands of the Dutch Kingdom have companies given a bonus for vaccination. Medical experts wonder whether it is desirable for other companies to follow suit. In the case of vaccination, people should mainly make the decision on their own, they say.
07.03 – Turnout is disappointing
General practitioners have to deal with a disease in various places in the country disappointing turnout during the corona vaccination.
06.55 – Weekly figures RIVM: the number of cases is starting to rise again
The number of corona cases in the Netherlands is on the rise again. Fewer people were tested around Easter and there were fewer positive tests, but this number has been rising again for a few days. We are probably now roughly at the pre-Easter level.
The National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) will provide the exact number of positive tests in the past seven days on Tuesday. Last week, the institute reported that it had registered 48,186 new cases in a week, the week before, the RIVM registered 51,866 positive tests.
In the six days since the last update, 44,537 infections have come to light. That is an average of almost 7,423 cases per day. On Sunday, RIVM reported more than 8,200 positive tests, the highest number since the end of March. The weekly figure for Tuesday could thus again exceed 50,000.
In the weekly figures, the RIVM also reported on Tuesday how many corona patients were admitted to hospitals last week (last week 1,588, of whom 376 in intensive care) and how many deaths were reported (last week 142). The reproduction number currently stands at 0.96. That means that the outbreak is extinguishing very slowly.
The RIVM will probably also report on Tuesday how many people have been vaccinated so far. Due to a technical failure, those figures did not arrive until Friday last week. Those figures were for the week from Monday March 29 to Sunday April 4. In that week, more than 485,000 people were vaccinated, a record since the start of the vaccination campaign. More than two million people have now had a first shot, and of them nearly a million have already received the second shot.
06.10 – Aboutaleb: disappointed in closing terraces
Mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb of Rotterdam says he is very disappointed if the cabinet decides on Tuesday to keep the outdoor space closed. According to him, the terraces, zoos and other outdoor parks such as the Hortus should open as soon as possible. He has argued for this before, together with the other mayors of the big cities. He compares it to opening up primary schools. Then the cabinet knew in advance that this would cause more infections, but this effect had been taken into account. “The welfare of the children was the opposite of this.”
Open up the public space, because people flock to it when the weather is nice. According to Aboutaleb, this concerns compliance with the rules. “There is a limit to what you can do as a mayor. How far are you willing to go? ”He wonders. “If there are thousands of people in the Kralingse Bos, I am not prepared to use a water cannon. If there are a lot of people, it is also impossible to send a boa or agent out to throw everyone on the coupon. ”
The Rotterdam mayor hopes that the cabinet will show courage and reconsider opening the terraces on April 21, among other things. “We don’t ask for much, only the public space. The rest can wait a while, ”he says.
His colleague Hubert Bruls, mayor of Nijmegen and the chairman of the Security Council, is less committed to a date. “Providing perspective is the most important. The best thing would be if the relaxation started as soon as possible. ”
06.03 – Decrease in number of infections in Curaçao for the first time since month
For the first time in a month, the number of people infected with the corona virus in Curaçao has decreased significantly. On Sunday there were 4,768 infections on the island, a day later the number is at 4,472. That is a decrease of almost three hundred people. There are still 118 people in hospital with a corona infection, including 41 in intensive care (ic). Nine Curaçao patients have been transferred to the ICU in Aruba.
The number of infections in Curaçao has increased enormously in a month. On March 11, 205 people were infected with corona on the island, 4 people with a corona infection were in hospital and 22 people had died. Exactly one month later on April 11, there were 4,768 infections, 138 Curaçao patients were hospitalized (129 in Curaçao and 9 in Aruba) and 66 corona patients died.
05.55 – Muslims begin second Ramadan in Corona time
The fasting month of Ramadan starts on Tuesday for nearly 1 million Muslims in the Netherlands. It is the second Ramadan during the corona pandemic. Normally it is a time when believing Muslims pray together a lot and gather after sunset to break the fast. This is not possible due to the corona virus: there is only limited space in mosques, the joint iftar meals have been canceled and due to the curfew, Muslims cannot meet outside.
The Contact Body for Muslims and Government (CMO), which represents 380 mosques, calls on Muslims to celebrate Ramadan at home with the family and not to visit family and friends. “Ramadan is fun and good food, but that is not the essence. It is also a moment of reflection ”, says CMO board member Saïd Bouharrou. He himself celebrated it alone with his family last year. “I thought it was very special. You put your focus much more on yourself and your own spirituality. ”
