Minister of Communications Shlomo Karai and Minister of Culture and Sports Miki Zohar announced today (Tuesday) the appointment of Little Shemesh, a presenter on Channel 14, as a member of the Cinema Council. The appointment was made according to a section of the Cinema Law which states that out of six council members who are supposed to be “in the fields of culture and art”, according to the law, two will be appointed according to the proposal of the Minister of Communications after consulting with the Council of the Second Authority.

Currently, the Cinema Council has 19 members, and with the approval of Shemesh’s appointment, their number will reach 20. This is out of 25 who are supposed to serve in it according to the law. The Film Council will soon be required to discuss public comments for Zohar’s reform in the field of cinema which should, among other things, prioritize public support for commercial films over support for quality films, thus weakening critical voices.
Shemesh, 41 years old, began appearing on Channel 20 (now Channel 14) in 2015. She joined the panel of “The Patriots”, then presented a nightly strip called “Today”, and currently presents the current affairs program “The Early Edition”. Over the years, she served, among other things, as the editor-in-chief of the children’s newspapers in the “Yediot Ahronoth” group, as an editor and presenter in the photo studio of the “Israel Hayom” website, as the right-hand marker on the panel of the program “Meet the Press” on Channel 12, and was also a partner in the development of television formats.
