The father of little Oakley Carlson appeared Monday morning while the girl has not been found for more than a year in the United States.
On Monday, the father of little Oakley Carlson appeared in court in Oakville, Washington County. He pleaded guilty to ‘abandonment of an addict’ after failing to provide his second daughter, 6, with her medication for at least 15 months. The court ruled that without these drugs, the little girl’s life was in great danger and she could even die. She has since been placed with another family. Andrew Carlson and his girlfriend Jordan Bowers were arrested in December 2021 and initially charged with Oakley manslaughter. But those charges were dropped, citing a lack of evidence. However, they were both charged with neglecting his sister.
Oakley Carlson disappeared over a year ago. His parents have not provided any information on the whereabouts of the 5-year-old child. “Parents have given no indication that Oakley is in adult custody and cannot explain her whereabouts or what condition she is in,” police said in a news release last December. “Investigators believe Oakley would be unable to survive this period of time on her own.”
“I didn’t see Oakley and I thought it was a bit strange”
When questioned, Oakley’s sister said her mother told her not to talk about the missing baby. She finally admitted she hadn’t seen her sister in a long time and broke down in tears when an officer asked her if Oakley was hurt. “Her mother Jordan told her not to talk about Oakley and told her she was out to be eaten by wolves,” a police report said. During a search of the couple’s home, police found ‘blood splatters on the blinds by the front door, on the front door and a handprint on the wall in the downstairs hallway’.
Oakley was officially reported missing on Dec. 6, 2021, after police attended the family home following a request from Oakville Elementary School Principal Jessica Swift. She said the first time she noticed anything strange was when she delivered supplies to Oakley’s parents, following a fire that destroyed much of their belongings. “Jordan had let us know there was a fire, so I went there to offer them support and drop off school supplies,” Jessica Swift told “News Nation.” “I saw all the other kids running around and playing outside and I didn’t see Oakley and I thought that was a bit strange. I asked where she was and they told me she was in her room resting”.
Two weeks later, Jessica Swift went back to the Carlsons and again didn’t see Oakley. It was the girl’s sister, during a visit to Jessica Swift’s house a few days later – to play with her daughter – who explained that she had not seen her sister for a long time. “During a time with my daughter and Oakley’s sister, I asked about Oakley. And it came out during those questions that Oakley was no longer living with them. I can’t describe the feeling I had at that moment sitting on that couch with that little girl when she said that.” Investigators have issued a call for interviews with anyone who has seen or spoken to Oakley since January 2021, as well as anyone who had direct contact with his parents during the same period.
