When studying physics or geography at school, surely detikers will study the Big Bang theory. Broadly speaking, this theory discusses how the universe was formed.
Quoting from Space, the Big Bang theory is an explanation of how the universe was formed. This theory says that the universe we live in today originated from a single point with infinite heat and density.
The Big Bang theory is still reaping the pros and cons among astronomers. However, it turns out that there are some interesting facts that we can know about the theory of the formation of this universe. The following is a review quoted from Live Science.
Little Known Facts of the Big Bang Theory:
1. Initiated by Georges Lemaître
At first, Albert Einstein published his work, namely the general theory of relativity which said that the universe would naturally expand or contract. But at that time more astronomers and physicists believed that the universe was static so that Einstein’s statement contradicted popular opinion.
Several years later, Edwin Hubble said that the average galaxy is moving away from us and sparked debate from many other astronomers. However, the Belgian physicist Georges Lemaitre was the one who accepted the opinion of Einstein and Hubble.
According to him we live in an expanding universe that was once much smaller, hotter and denser.
2. Accidentally Verified
Many physicists opposed Lemaître’s ideas because they found the Big Bang theory absurd even though they admitted it was attractive. However, the certainty of this theory was accidentally confirmed by the research of Arno Penzias and Robert Wilson while testing a new microwave radio.
The swirls are caused by radiation left over from when nature transitioned from a hot, solid plasma to a slightly less hot, neutral gas. This is called the cosmic microwave background, and it remains a cornerstone of our understanding of the Big Bang theory.
3. Not a Creation Theory
The Big Bang is a theory of the history of the universe, especially its earliest moments. This theory states that the universe was once crammed into a volume no bigger than a peach with a temperature of over 1 trillion degrees.
However, what the theory doesn’t tell us is where the universe came from. So, the Big Bang theory does not explain how the universe was created because humans only know what happened after the universe existed.
4. Almost visible to the naked eye
As previously mentioned, the Big Bang theory is clarified by cosmic waves that Arno Penzias and Robert Wilson have observed. That way, in plain view this theory can be seen through the cosmic waves how the reaction occurs.
The Big Bang event released huge amounts of radiation, which is still the cosmic microwave background responsible for over 99.999% of all radiation in the universe.
5. The Universe Has No Edge
The universe has no edges and no outside as the concept of “universe” expands to encompass literally everything that exists. The Big Bang happened to everything in the universe simultaneously.
It doesn’t happen at a specific location in space, but at a specific location in time. It’s hard to think about, but that’s the background why there is mathematics that helps humans solve concepts that have wide boundaries.
Those are five interesting facts about the Big Bang theory that are rarely known. Hopefully you can add new insights detikers yes.
