New York gets a new park on the Hudson River.
“Little Island” is slightly larger than a soccer field and, according to designer Thomas Heatherwicks, is due to open during the spring. The island in front of the west side of Manhattan stands on huge concrete steles of different heights, so that the garden landscape with dozens of trees, shrubs and lawns appears livelier due to a large slope. There is an amphitheater with 750 seats for the planned cultural events and programs.
